Park officially announced, Yann M’Vila top priority, We can still get Hazard, Vargas approached!

August 31, 2011

With the transfer day dead line just a few hours away, Arsenal is looking very busy to bring in the players required.

Yesterday it was all about the signings of Santos, Mertesacker and Park. Park was later in the day officially announced as an Arsenal player who will wear the number 9 shirt. We are still waiting for the official announcement of Mertesacker and Santos, which will be any time today.

Apart from that, as I said yesterday, we still need at least three more players. And the news that is coming in looks quite positive.

First off, chances of Eden Hazard to Arsenal looks likely after Joe Cole’s surprise loan move to Lille. Metro was running the story last night that this move might pave the way for Hazard to leave Lille as they now have a replacement for him.

Although Lille is adamant they won’t be selling their prized asset this season, I am certain that something close to 26 million might do the trick here. I really hope that this rumor does come to life as we really need a creative midfielder and Hazard fits the bill perfectly. Also, although, most clubs don’t sell their best players on the last day due to not finding replacement, in this case Lille has the replacement. So I hope Wenger has one eye on proceedings at Lille.

The other positive news coming in is that we are in talks with Rennes for Yann M’Vila. They have put up a price tag of 30 million on him, but if we are negotiating, we can get him for around 25 million. Goal.com is reporting that he is our main target on the final day.

Also Sky Sports was reporting last night that we have made an approach to Fiorentina regarding Juan Manuel Vargas. He is a talented left wing-back who can play both as an attacking midfielder and in the defensive role. He is valued at 12 million.

At the moment, after the departure of Traore, we have only two left backs, Andre Santos, signed yesterday, and Gibbs, whose injury record is not great. So Wenger has all the reason to sign him. However , I have a feeling that we will first of all complete the other signigns that are far more necessary than him.

Meanwhile, SkySports also reported that we have ended our interest in Cahill after signing Mertesacker. Tottenham are now more likely to sign him.

I hope this isn’t true because we really need another centre back.

That is all for now. More news and rumors are coming in which I will be covering later.

Before I conclude, I want to wish Eid Mubarak to muslims all over the world.

Gazidis assures signing players, Arsenal to have talks over Gervinho, Arsene interested in Emmanuel Riviere

June 14, 2011

Just a quick update today as I am busy somewhere else. Yesterday, Ivan Gazidis had a question and answer session with the Arsenal Shareholders Trust. I haven’t yet seen the session due to not finding time so can’t really comment on what happened. Ivan did, however, assure the fans that Arsenal will be making new signings this summer and a few of the current squad will also be asked to leave.

He was off the opinion that despite a massive disappointment the season cannot be seen as a disaster.

“Coming off the end of the season, I share with you a sense of profound disappointment. We had a season that promised a great deal and looked like it could turn into a very special one but in the end a familiar story began to tell itself. I understand the feelings that we all felt.

It is very clear we had some shortcomings and in this close season we are going to see some turnover of players. Some new signings will be coming in and some of our existing squad will be going out. As Arsène has said, it will be a busy close season for the Club.

But also it is important to recognize that it has not been a disaster. We have a young squad and we don’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The trick will be identify which parts to keep and which parts to turnover. And we will do that within our financial capabilities.”

I don’t want to sound negative but if finishing fourth in a two-horse title race isn’t disaster than I am afraid Ivan has lost me. It might have been disappointing if it was happening for the first time but to happen for four years consecutively is quite worrying. I will be discussing more of this after I have seen the whole session. For now, I am grateful that Ivan considers buying and indeed selling a few players, hopefully not to include Nasri and Fabregas.

In other news, Lille’s general manager Frederic Paquet has confirmed that they will be holding talks with Arsenal for a possible transfer of Gervinho. The general manger said

“He [Gervinho] wants to go and has developed contacts with Arsenal. We will soon have talks with them and see what they offer. He has expressed a desire to go to England and we will see what happens.”

With news coming out on daily basis related to Gervinho, it seems that we really are interested in him. let’s hope the talks are fruitful.

There is also talk of Arsene’s interest in Saint-Etienne striker Emmanuel Riviere. He has been compared to Thierry Henry and is valued at around £4.5 million. In the player’s own words

“I am flattered to be linked with the clubs mentioned. I am a young player, so to be linked with Arsenal is fantastic for me. If Arsene Wenger is interested in you it means you have potential to be a very good player. People compare me to Thierry Henry and that is a big compliment. If I can achieve half of his career I will be happy.”

With Bendtner on the verge of leaving, we do need to sign a striker this summer. Who will we get can only be answered by Wenger.

Today there were also reports that revealed Tottenham as the possible challengers to us in acquiring Christopher Samba. Blackburn themselves will do their best to keep Samba but my gut feeling is that if Wenger truly moves for him, we will get him this summer.

The biggest surprise of the day for me, however, was the news of a possible swap deal between Chelsea and Tottenham involving Drogba and Modric. My initial reaction to this was WTF! As for the rest, we will find out in the coming weeks.

By the way the media has already started speculating who will be the team to replace us in the top four next season. At the moment many are favoring Liverpool. Don’t the media love writing us off? Although I can’t say anything about titles at the moment, I am sure we will finish in the top four.

Have a good time!!

Goodbye Nicklas Bendtner and welcome Eden Hazard!

June 13, 2011

Nicklas Bendtner made it clear at the start of this month that he wants to leave Arsenal hundred percent. It now seems that he may have his wish as Besiktas have made an approach for him. It is being reported that Besiktas will be making a 10 million offer for the Danish front man this week.

However, Inter Milan is also in the mix, as they have shown interest in him. If both the clubs are involved, we may after all get a good price for the Dane. What then matters is where Bendtner wants to go and hopefully he will decide very soon. Personally I feel that 10 million is a great deal. At least we will get the money for buying Samba. And with him gone we may get room for signing a striker who is in-league with Robin van Persie.

In other news, we have stepped up our pursuit of Lille’s young winger, Eden Hazard and there are reports that we are going to bid for him this week.

With everyone having their eyes on Nasri’s situation, it’s about time we secured one of our long term targets before other clubs seize him. Eden hazard, widely recognized as the one of the best young talents is in sight of many clubs which now also includes Barcelona.

At Arsenal, many see him currently as a possible replacement for Nasri, if he decides to leave. However, I would want him to come to Arsenal even if Nasri stays.  The question that remains is will Arsene Wenger offer the £25-30 million price set on him? I guess that Wenger will this time because you rarely find talents like him. Below is an excerpt from an article written in The National about him.

His is the kind of pace which terrifies: quick changes of direction, instant acceleration, continuous movement. Coupled with the athletic gifts is a sublime technique. Hazard has the kind of ball control which cannot be taught, the type you see in video games, ball stuck to his foot. His passing is accurate, his vision is improving. What’s more, he is unselfish. So sound are his fundamentals that he will often pass up a shot to find a better placed teammate, a legacy of what he was taught as a child.

After reading the above, tell me if he wouldn’t fit at Arsenal!?

Have your say in the comments!

Barcelona players get extra wages for tapping up Fabregas! Man City after our targets and van Persie has a point!

June 12, 2011

Going through the all the news, I was surprised at how much time Barcelona players have. Every now and then you will hear someone asking Fabregas to come back to Barcelona.  It’s like they get extra wages for tapping up Fabregas on daily basis and saying how much he loves Barcelona. A couple of day’s back it was Iniesta who said that Fabregas will gel in well with Barcelona. A day later it was Pique having a go with saying something similar. At least change the script. It is getting boring. And it reminds me of how Barcelona plays, “It’s my turn with the ball… it’s my turn with ball…”

And just imagine what their conversations these days will be

Pique: “Today it is my turn to tap up Fabregas.”

Iniesta: “No! It’s my turn.”

Pique: “But you had your say yesterday!”

Iniesta: “But I am short on money! Give me your lines and no one will notice.”

Pique: “No way dude! I have memorized all the lines for today. You can have Xavi’s turn tomorrow.”

Seriously! Get a life or come up with a bid worth of Fabregas’ caliber.

Jokes aside there is nothing much happening. There was a report that said that our bid for Gervinho has been hijacked by Man City. After saying in yesterday’s report that we may have signed him, I can’t say anything about this. But one thing is for sure that Lille have refused Tottenham’s bid of €12 million for Gervinho.

Lille’s general manager Frederic Paquet has been quoted as saying

“We received an offer of €12m (£10.6m) from Tottenham which was refused”

That means that his price is more than that of €12 million and it seems very unlikely for Wenger to splash such amounts on him. Or maybe he has already signed for us. We can now only wait and see where Gervinho goes, if he does leave Lille.

Man City has also launched a bid for Bolton’s Gary Cahill. It will be another great blow for us if Man City can somehow buy out Cahill.  Wenger get him now or it will be too late.

Tough times indeed for us. Meanwhile, Van Persie had something interesting to say.

“Every year it always goes wrong in an identical way and that is frustrating. When you look at results in the last years, then Arsenal shouldn’t be talking about winning the league because too many times things have gone wrong.

Sometimes you have to eat the truth and be realistic. But I do believe with the signing of a number of players, then next season we should be in there competing for prizes.”

Harsh but he speaks the truth and till the time we don’t realize our mistakes and correct them we will tend to suffer. It is also a clear message to Wenger that the players want to see some new faces. If van Persie is saying that we shouldn’t be talking about winning the league then something really is wrong.

As for Diaby, I can’t believe what he was thinking when he was talking out loud with owning a spurs shirt. Geez!! From where did we get such players? Even if you own it keep it to yourself. And if you really want to go to spurs say it out loud and go. You won’t be missed seeing you never play three games in a row.  And you won’t have any difficulty wearing the shirt out on the streets.

I guess that would be all for now. At the moment every player on whom we are laying our hands are being snatched out of our clenches. But hey! I am not giving up and never will. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Arsenal outdo Barcelona again as Eden Hazard speaks about his future and Nasri is going nowhere!!

February 22, 2011

With the media busy in making up stories of Arsenal players joining Barcelona, it is Arsenal , who have signed another young Barcelona talent for €300,000, so it seems.

Sky Sports reported today that there is news circulating in Spain that we have signed a young midfielder named Jon Miquel Toral Harper from Barcelona’s youth setup. The 16 year old is a technically gifted midfielder who currently plays in Barcelona’s Cadete A.

Now I don’t know how true this is. However, if it is, we have outdone Barcelona again. And it seems Barcelona are not happy to lose another one of their promising players to Arsenal. I don’t want to predict anything, but if he arrives here, Wenger will surely mould him into a great player and in the next 5 to 6 years there will be talks again of Barcelona DNA.

In other news, Eden hazard has come out and spoken about speculations regarding his Lille exit. He has been constantly linked with a move to Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. However, it seems it will be some time before he leaves with the player saying that he is happy at Lille. The player, however, spoke of Arsenal as an ‘interesting club’ and was pleased with Arsene’s complement regarding him. These were his words:

“It’s nice to be complemented by Arsene Wenger. Arsenal is a very interesting club. But I’ve never been in contact with clubs seriously. How will I choose my future club? It would be on sporting reasons. A club that plays good football – and does not kick and run pointlessly – is very appealing to me but if I had the desire to join a big club that, I would have gone by now. For now I’m under contract until 2014 and I’m good at Lille.”

So, he wants to play for a team that plays good football and not kick and run. A very few clubs fall in that category and Arsenal is one of them. I don’t know if we have made any contact with him but I would like us to make an offer for him in the summers as he is a talent to be secured.

The media has also not stopped short of making Nasri’s comments, about his contract extension, to be turned into talk of quitting Arsenal in the summer. Arsene Wenger had already told that Nasri’s contract will be decided in the summers. However, when Nasri said the same thing, it has been turned into ‘Nasri hints of quitting the club’. This is what he said:

“I’m always flattered when my name is mentioned in connection with any big club, but I also know how things work. As things are right now, I am happy here and I have confidence from the manager. But things can change quickly in football, and then we may have a new situation. We promised each other to speak about this subject after the season ends. For now all my focus is on winning the league title and also getting as far as possible in the Champions League. All I can say is that I am enjoying my time at Arsenal and in London, and I feel there’s still a lot for me to contribute. One of the reasons I came to Arsenal was to win titles, and I’m not expecting to leave this club without one.”

So, in the above where do you see that he has said he wants to leave the club? He is enjoying his time at the club and wants to win trophies. The contract will be settled in the summers and he is going nowhere and that’s that. End of the subject. There is nothing more to read in between the lines. It would be nice if we as supporters not delve much into it because the media will always make things up. They just a need a reason to conjure up irrelevant stories and we are better-off without them.

That’s all for now. It’s Stoke tomorrow and will come up with the preview later.

Wenger: Nasri’s contract will be finalized in summers, Rules out signing Eden Hazard in January

January 8, 2011

For a couple of days now there has been news floating around that Nasri was going to pen down a new deal extending his contract. His current contract ends in 2012.

Well the reports are true in a sense but the contract will be finalized at the end of the season.

Wenger is, however, confident in the extension of Nasri’s contract, as he said that Nasri’s agent has already been approached and the process will be completed in the summers.

The reason for delay, Wenger, gave was the main focus being on the competitions at the moment. And he further added that there is one year still left in his current contract expiry.

Wenger regarding Nasri’s contract said:

“We’ll sort that out during the summer. We have met his agent already but we’ll finish the job in the summer.

[At the moment] we focus on the competition. Anyway, there is still one year to go [on Nasri’s contract] in the summer.

You can reproach me that I’m always confident.”

Wenger has also completely ruled out the signing of Eden Hazard from Lille in January. Eden Hazard has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal these past few weeks. The player himself came out saying that he would love to play for Arsenal as young players are encouraged there.

Arsene, however, has ruled it out by saying that the offensive department already has many players. He added that players like JET and Vela are not finding first team action and are being loaned out due to the same reasons.

However, Wenger didn’t rule out signing him ever. He said that it will depend on the situation at the end of the season.

Wenger regarding Hazard said:

“In the offensive department we have many players. If I give Carlos Vela and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas out on loan it is because we have what it takes.

At the end of the season we’ll have a look at the situation but at the moment it’s completely ruled out.”
