Report and a Quick Analysis: Partizan Belgrade 1 – 3 Arsenal

Partizan: 1 Celo 33 p

Arsenal: 3 Arshavin 15, Chamakh 71, Squillaci 82

A job well done by Arsenal as they came up on top today with a fine win over Partizan Belgrade.

Arsenal started slowly, clearly a bit cautious, but the goal calmed their nerves. They found their movement and passing and were clearly dictating the game. Of the lot, Wilshere and Arshavin were running the show for Arsenal.

The defence was a bit shaky in the beginning, committing a few mistakes which fortunately for us weren’t punished. The defence got their footing right after Arsenal took the lead.

The goal scored by Partizan was from the spot kick, of which there were a few today. The first half ended with the scores leveled. Although, Arsenal easily would have been 3 to 4 goals ahead had it not been to some excellent keeping by Stojkovic, who was on fire tonight for the whole match.

The second half saw the home team reduced to 10 men and Arshavin missing a penalty. Chamakh was the one who scored the second for Arsenal and Squillaci added the third. Further Cleo, who scored the first penalty for Partizan, missed the second one when Fabianski saved his low shot. In the end it was all too comfortable for Arsenal.

Our movement in the centre and up ahead was good. Though, we still gave away possession unnecessarily many times. The defence also made quite a few mistakes. Fabianski had more than a decent game, though I still don’t want him to keep in the next match.

We need to learn to put in a good cross. Sagna was poor with his crosses today as usual. Only Rosicky was the one who delivered good crosses into the danger area.

The one great thing today was the goal scored on the corner. After quite a while I have seen a goal scored like that by Arsenal.

Our defence and midfield was caught out a few times today which is very frightening considering mistakes like these will not go unpunished in the next game. We need this problem to be solved ASAP.

I will come up with the player ratings and detailed analysis later.

We have a few days before the next game to regroup and this game will certainly have increased the confidence of the team.
