Arsenal vs West Bromwich Albion: Preview

After the great news of pre-tax profits of £56million for the year ending May 2010, it’s time to get to business. Arsenal are to play the newly promoted West Brom today at home. West brom have responded well after being drubbed on the opening day by Chelsea and are currently at 10th position with 7 points. They will be confident today after their mid week victory over Man City in the Carling Cup.

Coming to Arsenal, it’s our third game at home this season in the Premiership, and considering our start, the three points should be in the bag, without underestimating the opponents. West brom, if pressed can concede a lot of goal and away from home they are very vulnerable. The question therefore is who Arsene will play as we have a tricky away fixture in midweek in Champions League and then the all important match with Chelsea.

We currently have quite a few players out with injuries and the players that have returned are Song, from suspension, and Diaby. Squillaci is also in the squad after a rest in the last match.

The selection of back four is not a concern as Almunia, Sagna, Koscielny, squillaci and Clichy are to return. In midfield we may see Song, Nasri and Diaby or Song, Rosicky and Denilson. Wilshere may also start, but considering he has featured in every game, he will be rested..  Whatever it will be the ones who play today will be rested in the midweek game.  Upfront Chamakh will be partnered by Arshavin and either of Eboue or Rosicky, if not selected in midfield.

Probable Starting Xi: Almunia, Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Clichy, Song, Rosickky, Diaby, Eboue, Chamakh, Arshavin.

Now the best way to put West Brom under pressure would be to score an early goal or two. We have to be on top of our game from start. The more time we take to score, the more West Brom will think they can get something from this match. Possession again would not be a problem and the creativity we have will be enough to seal the game early and then we can bring on the substitutes to rest the players.

Three to four goals along with a clean sheet would be good to see.

That’s it for now, enjoy the match and see you on the other side with the three points.
