The dust would have settled by now on the 6 nil thrashing of Blackpool. No matter they are a newly promoted team or were a man down for most part of the match, the victory was sweet and quite needed after the disappointing start at Anfied.
But we should not get carried away; still a lot needs to be proved by this squad. At the moment all is good, restricting myself to the match, and let’s praise THE TEAM where it deserves.
Some credit also goes too Blackpool who didn’t park their busses in front of goal even when they were a man down. They tried to play their game and their supporters were with them till the end.
On Arsenal’s side, we were great going forward and our passing was crisp. The transition from midfield to forward play was smooth. The good thing to see was some direct play by Arsenal and most of their passing in the final third was fruitful.
Theo Walcott’s performance was outstanding. His movement on and off the ball was good and he found the right pass on many occasions. Although he was given too much space by the opponent but he did utilize it to its maximum. What we need now is that he gives this type of performance consistently and against bigger oppositions. The third goal he scored, by curling the ball at the far post, is a sign that this season we might see the best of him.
Another positive sign is the return of Rosicky to his self. He controlled our midfield immaculately and was at the heart of almost every move of ours. And it comes on the back of a good contribution he made against Liverpool. Another plus is that he played the full 90 minutes and there were no signs of fatigue. If he can stay fit this season we will be seeing plenty of him.
The goal by Chamakh is another clear indication of why he is important for our team this season. He did miss a couple of chances but he was always present at the right place and never stopped trying. The question that needs to be answered is where his position would be when van Persie is starting.
On the defensive note we were solid though blackpool didn’t create much. Just on one occasion our defence was caught up but thanx to Gary taylor- Fletcher who headed wide. But we do need a new centre back as we are already playing a defensive midfielder at that position and just two matches have been played.
Now onto player ratings:
Daiby again showed his brilliance with his goal and he was quick to release the ball. Yet at times he makes things too complicated. 7.5
Wilshere had a decent match, kept the ball well and was not afraid to go forward. 6.8
Arshavin scored a well struck penalty and was involved in the move that led to the first goal. He can do better and a lot is required of him. 7
Almunia didn’t have much to do. 6
Sagna, Clichy and Vermaelen did what was required of them. Quite frankly they weren’t much tested. 6.8
Song was solid in defene. At times his positioning wasn’t great but it was his first match and was not playing at his favored place. 6.5
Walcott got a hat-trick and didn’t put a foot wrong. 9
Rosicky took up the role of playmaker with ease and didn’t disappoint a bit. 8.5
Chamakh was patient and was always trying for goal and he did get his reward in the end. 7
Van Persie, Fabregas and Vela played their part in the final minutes. Vela made a good run that deserved a goal. Fabregas had a shot on goal and his passing was precise. 6.5
I hope we carry this performance to our next match against Blackburn which is going to be the real test.
