Liverpool vs Arsenal: Player Ratings

It seems that we haven’t yet eliminated the problems we had last season. And for all the talk and belief that this season is ours, performance like this doesn’t help.

We always have most of the possession but create very little or of no effect going forward. Why are we at a loss of what to do in the final third of the field? Why do we have to make things complicated? Why are we shy to take the initiative? And why the hell do we need to pass near our danger area?  Just clear the ball. I won’t mention the keeper!

I am not being negative and a point from this match is good enough but these problems are to be eradicated. We won’t be always gifted with a goal. We need to find the killer instinct if we are to seriously challenge for the title.

I will come to the player ratings or else this might end up somewhere else.

Player ratings:

Manuel Almunia:  Not good enough. He may have saved a couple of shots but was not at all convincing. My heart always skipped a beat whenever he was near the ball.  5

Bacary Sagna:  Solid in defence and provided good width on the flanks. Needs to improve his crosses.  6.5

Thomas Vermaelen:  Had a decent game. Brought out a fine save from Reina though he was at some fault for the goal.  7

Laurent Koscielny:  A very composed debut for him. Wasn’t too confident against Torres.  7

Gael Clichy:  An average game for him. Didn’t look good going forward as had to deal with both Kuyt and Johnson.  6

Emmanuel Eboue: Looked sharp with the ball but again no end product.  6

Samir Nasri:  Didn’t create much although had a lot of time on the ball.  6

Jack Wilshere:  Misplaced the pass that eventually led to a goal. Did well but not good enough by his standards.  5.5

Abou Diaby:  Kept the ball with him for too long. A decent but ineffective game for him.  6.5

Andrey Arshavin: Was he even playing!  5

Marouane Chamakh:  Looked alone and most of the time without support up front. Didn’t get the delivery most of the times though some credit to him for his part in the goal.  6.5

Subs:

Theo Walcott: Did bring some pace to the game and curled a good shot from free kick.  6.5

Tomas Rosicky:  Man of the match for me.  Was the only one who created something of worth. Provided the cross that led to a goal. Also had a shot saved after making an excellent run.  8

Robin Van Persie: Looked out of touch. Did not have much time to make an impact.  6

One Response to Liverpool vs Arsenal: Player Ratings

  1. Hamza Javaid says:

Arsenal should have won the game. Liverpool were one man shot throughout second half and at one time it was 9 against 11. Yet Arsenal failed to convert most of the chances. Some shots were good but the goal itself was very unconvincing. Arsenal better to pull up its socks if its serious about winning the championship.
