Liverpool vs Arsenal: Match Preview

The first match of the season for Arsenal is against the Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool. The last season failures will have been put behind by Gerrard and company and they would be ready to reclaim their lost glory this season. Arsenal will not have it easy and they will need to dig in to get a result.

07/08/2010          Pre-season Friendly           Legia Warsaw vs Arsenal         5 – 6

From above results it can be seen that Arsenal has not lost to Liverpool for two years. In fact the last defeat was in Champions League, 2007-08, quarterfinals. Arsenal has also not lost a preseason match this season but the ominous sign is that they have conceded plenty of goals. These stats would mean nothing on the match day and the team that makes the most out of their chances and makes fewer mistakes is going to win the match.

Starting XI:

It seems that the injury crises for arsenal have continued on from last season. We are already without Bendtner (groin), Ramsey (broken leg), Song (calf) and Djourou (hamstring). Diaby (calf) and Denilson (abdominal) face fitness tests. Fabregas and Van Persie are likely to be on the bench due to lack of match fitness. The good news is that Arshavin is fit to play and we know he loves to score against Liverpool. My prediction for the starting XI is

Sagna     Koscielny         Vermaelen    Clichy

       Rosicky            Nasri               Wilshere

       Walcott        Chamakh        Arshavin

Predicted Result: Liverpool 1 – 3 Arsenal
